AGATON: First Typhoon to Hit Philippines in 2018
State weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services administration (PAGASA) has advised that the low pressure area (LPA) spotted east-southeast of Surigao City has developed into a tropical depression named "Agaton" (local name), which will continue to damp rains with gusty winds in the Visayas and Mindanao.
Agaton brings heavy rains with gusty winds in the regions of Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Davao, and neighboring areas in Mindanao. As of Tuesday afternoon, Agaton was packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and 90 kph gusts moving west at 25 kph. It maintained its speed, moving west at 25 kph, PAGASA said.
Corresponding storm signals have been raised in the affected areas, including Palawan and affected areas in the Visayas region. As of Tuesday evening, there were no more areas in Mindanao with storm warning signals.
